Superbook ( スーパーブック , Sūpābukku ), also known as Animated Parent and Kid Theatre ( アニメ 親子劇場 , Anime Oyako Gekijō ),[ane] is a Christian anime television series from the early 1980s, initially produced at Tatsunoko Productions and TV Tokyo in Japan in conjunction with the Christian Dissemination Network in the U.s.a., and rebooted in 2011 by CBN with Asia-Pacific region animation studios along with locally based partners like Tokyo MX and Give-and-take of Life Press Ministries in Japan.[ii] [iii] [iv] [v]

The serial chronicled the events of the Bible's Former and New Testaments in its 52-episode run. The outset 26 episodes aired from October i, 1981 to March 25, 1982. The series returned as Superbook II: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century ( パソコントラベル探偵団 , Pasokon Toraberu Tanteidan , lit. Personal Computer Travel Detective Team) with 26 episodes to air from April four, 1983 to September 26, 1983. Betwixt both series in the first run was the companion series The Flying House. Original series [edit]

The first series, Superbook (Anime Oyako Gekijo), begins at the home of a young boy named Christopher "Chris" Peeper, who discovers the aboriginal Bible named Superbook that can speak and send him, his friend Joy (Azusa Yamato), and his clockwork toy figure named Gizmo the Crusader Robot back in time during the events of the Onetime and New Testaments. The second serial, Superbook II: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century (Pasokon Travel Tanteidan), takes place ii years after the start series, where Superbook falls onto a computer, giving anybody the ability to see into the past from Christopher'south dwelling house via the monitor. Ruffles, his poodle, has managed to become lost in time, prompting Gizmo and Christopher's little brother (rewritten every bit his cousin in the English language dub), Uriah "Uri" Peeper, to search for Ruffles. While Chris and Joy go on lookout man and control of the computer from the nowadays, Gizmo and Uri experience the stories from the Quondam Testament solely.

  • Christopher "Chris" Pepper (voiced by Sho Asuka in Japan, Billie Lou Watt in English dub): The main hero of the series, who is Professor Breakthrough'south son and Gizmo's former owner.
  • Joy (voiced by Azusa Yamato in Japan, Sonia Ownes in English dub): Chris' next-door neighbor and best friend.
  • Gizmo the Crusading Robot (voiced Zenmaijikake in Nihon, Billie Lou Watt in English dub): The name of two characters, depending on the season. In season one, he is Chris' advanced toy figure that tin become a real life robot. And then in season two, Gizmo became a real-life sized robot built past Uri's father.
  • Uriah "Uri" Peeper (voiced by Yuu Asuka): Chris' cousin and Gizmo's current possessor.
  • Professor Frederick "Fred" Peeper (voiced by Professor Asuka in Nippon, Ray Owens in English dub): A scientist who is Christopher'due south male parent.
  • Phoebe Peeper: Chris' female parent.
  • Ruffles (voiced by Kikyomu): Chris' and Uri's Yorkshire Terrier poodle.
  • Superbook (voiced past Ray Owens in English dub): An ancient Bible that takes Chris, Joy, Gizmo, and Uri back to the Erstwhile and New Testament era.

  • Christopher "Chris" J. Breakthrough (voiced past Samuel Vincent): An awesome skateboarder, video gamer and pb guitarist in a garage band with his Valleyview Eye School buddies. He uncovers the secrets of Superbook through a mysterious portal to the past.
  • Joy Pepper (voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent): Next-door neighbor, best friend, and classmate of Chris Quantum at Valleyview Middle Schoolhouse. She is approachable and usually a scrap more adventurous than Chris. She loves soccer, is able-bodied, and great at other sports likewise.
  • Gizmo (voiced by Cathy Weseluck): A robot created past Chris' dad, Professor Quantum, to protect both Chris and Joy, only they end upward protecting him. He loves upgrades to brand himself more useful and would rather stay in the lab than time-travel with Superbook. A really absurd characteristic of Gizmo is that he can change his appearance as needed.
  • Superbook (voiced by Colin Murdock): A device that takes Chris, Joy, and Gizmo through a portal to travel back in the Old and New Testament era during biblical times.
  • Professor Crispin Breakthrough (voiced past January Rabson): A scientist and inventor who is Chris' father, Phoebe's husband, and Gizmo's creator.
  • Phoebe Quantum (voiced by Nicole Oliver): Chris' mother and Crispin'due south wife.

In 2016, Superbook began releasing DVDs which contained two previously released episodes per DVD. At that place are also special features on each DVD, such as how to describe a grapheme in the Superbook artwork mode, music videos, and/or informational videos explaining where the events of the stories may have taken place or how they relate to Jesus Christ.[77]

Gizmo Get! [edit]

In 2020, Superbook began releasing DVDs about Miss Tina starting her internship at Quantum Labs and coming together four comical robots: Gizmo, Rig, Gears and Widget.[78]

VHS/DVD releases [edit]

Superbook Serial I and Series II were released on various VHS volumes by Tyndale Entertainment. The entire series was bachelor over 26 VHS Volumes. Superbook was released for the showtime time on DVD late 2005 to early 2006. The three DVD volumes features 4 episodes each from Series I.[ citation needed ]
